Admission to Hospital
Patients are typically admitted on the day of the surgery. Patients will not have
anything to eat or drink for 6 hours prior, to the operation start time. Once in
hospital, they will be made to feel comfortable by the nursing staff and assessed
further by the consultant anaesthetist. The specifics of the type of anaesthetic
to be used will be discussed once again. The patient will see Mr Patel again, to
discuss the forthcoming operation, so that they can have a clear understanding of
the operation and informed consent may be obtained.
